Summer - a time of lounging about in the shade of a tree, enjoying an ice cream cone and listening to the lazy drone of summer insects. In essence, a time of doing nothing.
Not! If you're applying to music school, or are already in music school, the summer can be your most productive time of the year! When else will you be surrounded by more like-minded, hardworking people in your chosen field, without the pressures of homework, family obligations, and, for the most part, Facebook? The right program can up your chances of meeting influential people, getting into the school of your choice, and ultimately landing a job in the future. It all depends how far you're willing to go, how hard you're willing to work - and unfortunately, in a lot of cases, how much you're willing to pay.
Make the most of your summer with a summer program! You'll be glad you did. And, unless you pick a really long program like Aspen, chances are, you'll still have plenty of summer left over for lounging - as long as you're done practicing, that is.
